FHS success at Sharp-shotz Animation Project

Two FHS teams have won the Sharp-Shotz animation project. The competition was to create a short film.

Over the past 8 years Sharp Shotz has engaged over 800 young people from secondary schools, pupil referral units, and youth groups. It has run the animation competition with Aardman Animations and the University of the West of England as the founding partners, Sharp Shotz Unsigned music competition with Real World Studios, debates at Bristol City Council, and events as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and the Encounters film festival

In December 2014 after two months of preparation a large group of Year 8 students sent their completed film proposals to the organisers; five teams were invited to the finals at UWE and each team worked with staff from the BBC and UWE students to prepare their final idea.

Each team was allocated 5 minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of 5 judges, which included journalists from the BBC, and senior lecturers from UWE including the Head of Animation. The students who presented to the judges also had to face some very difficult questions about the facts and ideas behind their proposals.

At the end of the session the panel of judges fed back that all the FHS teams were outstanding and that some were in fact better than the UWE students' presentations. The two winning teams will now be going to the BBC in February to make their final film.

Sharp Shotz aims to:

Enable young people to reach their full potential.
  • Breakdown the barriers to learning and work opportunities that prevent young people from succeeding.
  • Provide young people with opportunities to work on projects that target problems faced by young people today.
  • Establish projects which are innovative and rewarding to work on, building self-confidence and the will to succeed.
  • To work with partners from all sectors of the community in the achievement of these aims.

Well done to all who took part!!
