Street Art

Students took part in a session ran by The University of the West of England where they were shown that maths is involved in creating large pieces of street art; also how street artists use enlargement.

They were introduced to the method using a video that shows the mathematics behind the work of a graffiti artist as he described how scale factor and measurement are an integral part of the mural design process.

Students were shown how to create a grid over a piece of art and how to use scale factor to increase the size of the piece.

After the method had been shown, students were able to have go at this technique using letters from ‘Fairfield’ and enlarging them from A6 to A3.

To finish they were given this problem solving question.

Thank you to the University of the West of England for this fascinating workshop!
