Fun Maths by UWE

As part of Maths Week 2019, some of the University of West England’s Maths Department were invited in to deliver a really engaging set of maths puzzles for some of our Year 9s to get their teeth into.

The two classes were split into groups of three or four before the challenge began. Over the course of an hour the teams took part in a carousel of activities, designed to test their problem-solving skills, initiative and team work. Many groups persevered using their resilience and encouragement from their teacher(s) until most of the puzzles were complete.

Having spoken to some of the groups afterwards, Team FHS was pleased to hear how much they enjoyed themselves with some mentioning that they “didn’t realise how maths could come up in some many real life situations…” or that they "didn’t appreciate how maths connects so many different things in everyday life.”

Thanks again to UWE and hopefully they will come again next year to support our Maths Week.
