Chair of Governors: Message

Dear Parents and Carers

I just wanted to bring you up to speed with some changes in the role of the Local Governors since we became part of the Excalibur Academy Trust. Our work has changed in that much of the detail of buildings and budgets, rules and regulations, policies and purchases and the rest of the day to day administration has been taken on by colleagues across the Trust. In exchange Local Governors have been asked to concentrate on ensuring educational standards, student welfare and supporting and developing relationships with the local community. We really have to have detailed knowledge of what is going on in the school and we make lots of visits and talk to lots of colleagues. You won’t be surprised when I say that we see lots of great things going on as well as fantastic learning. It is also our job to comment and challenge when we see things we feel might need improving.

As you will be aware the school is full in Year 7, ran a fantastic transition scheme and had great exam results; everything we do is aimed at being an ‘Outstanding’ School. We are now also working closely with fellow governors and staff across the Trust and this is a great support for us and in turn, I hope for them.

The Board is made up of parent governors, as I am, and community governors from the local area who want to support the School and what it stands for. We also include staff governors among our number. Please keep an eye out for some upcoming vacancies on the 'Becoming A Governor' page on the left hand side - indeed right now there is ONE PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY available; we would be delighted to hear from you.

Best Wishes

Dr Kieran Kelly
