Apprentice with a baking theme

Some of our year 10 students took part in “The Apprentice” where they were given a £10 loan and told to invest that money into a baking business, selling their cakes to other students and staff in order to make a profit.

The group started by researching their recipes online and in teams decided on the most profitable one that they were going to make. When they had decided on their recipe, they then scaled the quantities up to make the most of their £10.

We went on a trip to Tesco, searching out the best value items to maximise our profit. We then used a Food Technology room to do the cooking and made chocolate cornflake cakes, brownies, flapjacks and cookies.

They considered how much we needed to sell them for to make a profit and sold our bakes to the school at breaktime and lunch time. They can continue to invest their money if they want to and get to keep any of the profit they make after paying the maths department back!

Well done to our young entrepreneurs!
