South West Composers Day 28/02/15

South West Composers Day – Saturday, 28 February 2015

Have you ever wondered how an Orchestra approaches a new piece of music, or how composers go about their work?

Then why not join Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 28 February for an afternoon dedicated to composing contemporary music for orchestras and ensembles.

The ensemble workshops are led by one of today’s most prolific composers, Colin Matthews. Instrumental workshops in strings, wind, percussion and harp with BSO musicians will also take place giving an insight into writing for their individual instrument. As part of this event, we are delighted to invite young composers aged 16-21 from across the region to attend free of charge hosted by members of our Participation team.

The schedule for the afternoon is as follows:
13.00 Arrive & meet the BSO Participate team.
13.45-14.30 Instrumental workshops led by members of the BSO
14.40-15.25 ‘Collaboration and making performances happen’ with Richard Whitelaw, Head of Programmes at Sound and Music
15.45-17.15 Workshop performance with the full BSO led by Colin Matthews

The masterclasses and rehearsals are all open to the public – and on top of that, all scores will be on display, so you really will get a chance to look inside the score!

We are delighted to be able to offer this free of charge to talented young composers aged 16-21 in the South West, but places are limited to just 15 (allocated on a first-come-first-served basis).

To book a place, please complete the attached form and return it to Chris Block, Participation Administrator at the BSO (cblock@bsorchestra.co.uk).
