Science Club Creates Hot Air Balloon

This term Science Club has been exploring balloons and was set the challenge to launch a hot air balloon.

The process was:

- glue together pieces of tissue paper using a template to cut the segments

- glue each segment together

- reinforce the top section

- make a hexagon shaped framework for the bottom

It measures an impressive 5'8" tall by  5 feet wide.

Armed with two hairdryers and really long extension lead we started to fill the balloon with hot air; we attached a small net to the base and added Rudolf and penguin chocolates, then stood back and watched it slowly rise, balance itself and continue to rise. Success!

Well done Science Club, we are looking forward to our next project in January.

Science Club runs every Monday from 3.30-4.30pm in 2N03 and is open to all KS3 students.
