Wishing all a happy and restful winter break

This term has seen a flurry of heartening charity and environmental activities taking place across the school as well as a healthy dose of reflection time and sporting success - all of which match our school values so well.

The start of Term 2 saw our first ever “Fairfield Fashion Fizz” - a charity fashion catwalk that brought together members of the local community, charities, staff and students past and present for a fun filled nights of glitz and glamour to raise cash for Oxfam and AidBOX Community. The designer auction will definitely become an annual event. The vent was kindly sponsored by Burges Salmon, our Business in the Community partners. The event coupled nicely with 'Movember', where staff undertook to grow moustaches for the whole of November to raise cash for charity too.

On the physical activity front, we were very pleased to be the first secondary school in Bristol to gain the “Healthy Schools” Physical Activity badge. This demonstrates our deep commitment to the importance of physical activity in the school; an important award for us given that many people fear that students are spending time increasing time being inactive. The badge independently verifies at Fairfield students and staff value being physically active. Another indicator of that the time and dedication that our students put into pursuing excellence in sports. You can read the journey of success for four of our young people in the art of kickboxing below.

A real highlight of the term has been the planting of a native hedge border around the boundary of the school. Year 7 students and staff braved the wet weather to plant range of hedging that will provide a great habitat for wildlife, offset some of our carbon use and provide screen from some of the high winds the site can experience, being on the top of a hill. The hedge will last for generations and will be a wonderful legacy for the Year 7 students to return to. The event took place to celebrate National Tree Week.

Finally, we are looking to end the term with our wonderful Winter Gala on the evening of December 18th - a chance to see and celebrate the performances of some of our most talented students as we head towards the holidays.

We look forward to welcoming all students back on Monday January 6th, well rested and ready for a new year at Fairfield High School.
