Oxygen Butane Rocket Fun - Video

During Science Week, the students were excited to create, and then let off, an Oxygen Butane rocket!

The theory behind the exercise was to show the students that 'Rocket Science' really is not that hard - contrary to the phrase. Understanding the mixtures and their explosiveness and containing them while directing the force in a particular way is always a great way to capture imaginations. Everyone across Year 9 had the opportunity to make these rockets and most were successful, but of course those that were not as exciting, collectively learned from their mistakes and tried again.

Student Ella comments: "It was such a big bang, what a thrill...amazing stuff!"

Kayley adds: "I jumped out of my skin the first time!"

See below a slo mo video of the rocket in action.
