The Winning Pythagoras

The Year 7 cohort have had a terrific start to the mathematics course at Fairfield. The induction week gave our new students a chance to explore some exciting areas of mathematics such as codebreaking and venture a little into the fascinating history of the subject. Many students participated in a famous mathematician poster competition and we had over a hundred fantastic posters submitted and the team found it very difficult to choose the winners. After much deliberation we decided on the following winner and runners up. Well done to all those who participated, the top three posters can be seen in the maths display board on the second floor!

1st place: Bobby Jenkinson won a £20 Amazon voucher with a delightful collage about Pythagoras (pictured below)

2nd Place: Reuben Corbett won a scientific calculator and geometry set with a lovely hand drawn poster on Katherine Johnson

3rd Place: Nesta Gayton won a geometry set with an information-packed board on Ada Lovelace

We have a promising year ahead and next term the Key Stage 3 students who have displayed the best mathematician skills will be rewarded with a workshop about fireworks.
